General Information

The STA CERTIFICATE qualification enables an individual to be a fully qualified swimming teacher. The course looks at developing and refining teaching skills as well as their knowledge of the 4 Competitive Strokes &  Advanced Swimming Skills. Stages 5-10 are covered looking at Competitive/ Fitness Swimming and Survive & Save in Stages 8-10. Teachers would be qualified to deliver the full pathway from Stage 1-10 as well as School Swimming Lessons.

– Safeguarding Children , Young People and Vulnerable Adults planning , Delivering, Assessing and Evaluating Swimming Lessons

– Understand a Swimming Teacher’s Role 

– Understanding the Health and Safety Requirements for an Aquatic Environment 

– Understanding the Scientific and Learning Theories Relevant to Swimming Teaching 

– Planing , Delivering and Assessing Advanced Swimming Skills

– Understand the Safety Requirements for Advanced Swimming Skills

Assessment Criteria

The STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming covers advanced participants and advanced swimming skills and is tutor assessed through the completion of worksheets, Schemes of work , lesson plans , lesson evaluation forms and practical teaching.In addition to this, there is an external assessment of a 30-minute practical lesson on the final day of the course.
