STA Combined Award & Certificate in Teaching Swimming



General Information

The STA AWARD qualification is an entry level course that looks at the fundamentals of swim teaching focusing on being able to deliver to Stages 1-4 (Non-Swimmers, Beginner & Improves). Individuals will learn how to teach Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke & Fly leg kick as well as the Essential Swimming Skills. Individuals will be able to deliver to groups between 4-8 pupils for Stages 1-4. The STA CERTIFICATE qualification enables an individual to be a fully qualified swimming teacher. The course looks at developing and refining teaching skills as well as their knowledge of the 4 Competitive Strokes & Advanced Swimming Skills. Stages 5-10 are covered looking at Competitive/ Fitness Swimming and Survive & Save in Stages 8-10. Teachers would be qualified to deliver the full pathway from Stage 1-10 as well as School Swimming Lessons.Please note you will be assessed on the 5th day of the course on the award standard, if do not successfully reach this standard we will transfer you to another STA Certificate course once you achieved the STA Award standard.

STA Award Course Content & Structure (Day 1-5)

- Planning , Delivering , Assessing and Evaluating Swimming Lessons

- Understand a Swimming Teacher's Role

- Understanding the Health and Safety Requirements for an Aquatics Environment 

- Understanding the Scientific and Learning Theories Relevant to Swimming Teaching

STA Award Assessment Criteria

The STA Award in Teaching Swimming is tutor assessed through the completion of Worksheets, Schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation forms and practical teaching. In addition to this, there is an external assessment of a 30-minute practical lesson on the final day of the course.

- Planing , Delivering and Assessing Advanced Swimming Skills

- Understand the Safety Requirements for Advanced Swimming Skills

Assessment Criteria
