Pre-requisites

Candidates must renew their qualification within the period of validity of their existing qualification as stated on their certificate.Photo identification must be shown to the trainer on the NPLQ Renewal. Identification can be verified using either a passport, a driving licence, or another photographic ID card.Candidates must meet the following on-going training criteria before being submitted for a renewal assessment:Bring with you written evidence of having completed a minimum 20 hours pool training, comprising In-water swimming pool rescue skills (at least 4 hrs,) CPR (at least 4 hrs,) First Aid (at least 4 hrs) and Lifeguard Theory (at least 4 hrs) in conjunction with the undertaking of lifeguard duties within the period of validity of the qualification Hold a current full National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) and bring the certificate with you to your renewal assessment GLL candidates only - bring along a copy of your AED assessment matrix. Have access to a copy of " The Lifeguard" , available from Lifesavers Direct, which includes the most recent updatesPlease note that employees of GLL are required to attend in uniform including namebadge.

Course Content and StructureThe NPLQ Renewal is a one day course including assessment. Renewals taking place at Crystal Palace or London Aquatics Centre will always run from 10am - 4pm. Renewals at other venues may have different start and finish times, please check the top of this email for confirmation.

The renewal will include a full assessment of lifeguard knowledge and skills by an independent assessor. The assessment is split into 3 sections:

Practical pool assessmentMultiple choice theory assessment for all 3 sectionsPractical First Aid and CPR assessmentPlease note in the event of a candidate being unsuccessful a re-assessment fee is £50 if the candidate wishes to take the course again
